I didn't get the job. They finally got back to me yesterday and said they offered it to someone who already works at the company. It was between me and that person and I guess they just had a slight leg up on me since they already work there and "know the business."
I was pretty mad when they told me. First, I had to wait a whole week after my "final interview" to find out the decision. I had to call and email the HR woman just to find out what was going on in their decision making process.
Secondly, I seriously thought I had the job when I left the interview. Maybe I was getting ahead of myself but the vibes I got from all FIVE interviews I had were positive. Several of the people told me they were impressed by my skills and that I would be good fit for the job. So how could I not have been hopeful?
My dad thinks they knew the whole time they were going to offer it to the person from within, but that they had to post the job out there to be fair. I have heard of corporations doing that so if that's the case, well thanks for wasting my time people.
The thing that makes me the most mad is now I have to start all over in the job search. Out of maybe 25 resumes I sent out during my last job hunt rampage, I only got two calls. And only this one led to an in person interview. I know I'm qualified for most of the jobs I've been applying to, so that makes me wonder if my resume sucks or I'm not saying the right things in my cover letter.
I think I'm going to get set up with a recruiter so they can help me find jobs to apply for. A few have contacted me in the past because my resume is out on Monster and Career Builder, so maybe I'll dig up their contact info and give them a shot. At this point, I'm willing to try anything just to get out of here.
Sigh.

That really sucks - to feel like you were strung along much longer than was necessary. Boo. But, don't let it hold you back from finding your next opportunity. And you should be in touch with anyone and everyone who may be able to help you find a job, including friends, family, head hunters, career counselors, alumni connections and so on. If you've got it, use it ... because your competition surely is.
I am sorry it didn't work out!
I know that at our company they do that. They always interview outside people and inside people, but if all else is equal the inside person is going to get it. They are really big on promotion from within but have to post it to the public.
When I was applying for jobs during senior year of college for after graduation I was a Monster.com whore. I sent anywhere between 25-40 resumes a week for about 2 months. From that I got about 45 callbacks. Some of them I decided I wasn't interested, but I ended up with 22 interviews on a trip to Atlanta.
My dad told me once that for every 25 resumes you will probably get 1 call back.
Just some insight. He used to do HR, so he is pretty in on the trends.
That sucks! Sorry to hear that you didnt get it.
But also be careful with recruiters... I went to one once that kept trying to get me to do temp work. Which I explicitly stated I did not want! Needless to say I didnt go back to them.
Awh, man I'm sorry. It hardly seems like a fair practice, but I've heard of a lot of companies opening up positions even though they know who they're giving it to.
Be diligent. You'll find something.
That really sucks, I'm sorry :( Sending you good vibes!
